Under the Louisiana Public Records Law (La. R.S. 44:1 et seq.) and Article XII, Section 3 of the Louisiana Constitution, any person of the age of majority may inspect, copy, or obtain a reproduction of any public record maintained by the City of Rayne, except records specifically exempted by law.
You do not need to explain why you want a record. To help us respond quickly, please describe the records you seek as specifically as possible (subject, dates, departments, and document types).
Open your email app to send a public records request to records@rayne.org.
You may also submit a request by any of these methods:
Louisiana law requires the custodian to make public records available promptly. If a record is immediately available, it will be provided for inspection during regular business hours. If a record cannot be produced immediately, the custodian will, within three business days, provide a written explanation of the cause of the delay and an estimate of when the record will be available (R.S. 44:33).
You may inspect public records at no charge during regular business hours. Reasonable copying fees, set by law and city policy, may apply when you request reproductions. We will provide a cost estimate before producing copies that incur a charge.
Some records are exempt. Louisiana law protects certain records from disclosure — including some law-enforcement investigative records, personnel and medical information, security procedures, and records made confidential by statute. If we must withhold or redact a record, we will cite the legal exemption that applies.
